I have had my 1996 R1100RT a month and have done 1200 miles so far. Four fill ups : 50.86mpg,54.97mpg.,46.9mpg and 51.9mpg.captaincable wrote:I hit 50mpg one time riding about 45mph on my r850 but most of the time its in the low 40's, probably would be better w/out panniers but I use them a lot.

Sorted - it turned out to be a bad wire for the rear brake light switch shorting to earth. Cut out wire and replaced with new - jobs a good un.

What could cause fuse number 1 to self destruct ? The bike is a standard 1997 R1100RT . I thought at first the fuse blew because it was old so I replaced with new , turned on ignition , it blew again. Did this twice just to be certain and each time fuse 1 blew.
