Re: Servo assisted brakes
The servo and abs unit is one unit on the 2002 bikes. It was an optional extra so bikes were supplied without abs/servo ( which is electric ) It is also easy to remove the unit and turn the bike into a non abs one and a lot of people do this if the unit fails ( usually due to poor maintenance). No p...

Re: What air filters do
"120000" km service.
How long has that air filter been fitted to the bike?
I must admit after 20000 English miles my air filter was considerably worse than yours!
For what they cost and for what they do I change mine every year.

Ignition plate/Hall sensor plate connector
Hi, Does anyone know when the 6 pin connector plug from the Hall Sensor/Ignition plate changed from a flat 6 pin plug to an oblong plug with 2 rows of 3 pins? I am going to make up a spare plate having aquired 2 sensors but need to know what old plate to get to refurbish without taking my tank off! ...

Make sure the garage door is secure - good locks and possibly good alarm system - especially if you have got a decent sized beer fridge installed full of beer!!

Re: Is it possible to view splines by removing the starter?
You cannot see the splines when the starter is removed. As previously said, if the clutch lever is tied in the disengaged position to the handlebar with a zip tie the clutch plate is free to move. using a small screwdriver the plate can be moved to guesstimate the radial movement on the splines. I a...

Second plug cover? 2002 single spark R1150R bike. The middle "leg" on the protector just rests against the engine.

Plastic head protectors
Had to replace one of my BMW rocker cover protectors as managed to drop the bike!!
It only appears to be attached at the front and rear holes and the one in the middle has no hole in the engine to screw into.
Have some bikes got 3 mountings?

Re: Clutch or Neutral at a Traffic Light?
Holding the clutch lever in at lights puts unnecessary strain and wear on the release bearing.
Best put in neutral unless lights about to change!

Re: Starter Motor Interlock?
I am no auto electrician but did wonder that if the power supply to the start button ( which I assume only activates the starter relay) was taken from the supply to the red alternator warning light, there would be power to the switch only when the alternator was not charging ie the warning light is ...

Starter Motor Interlock?
Has any one managed to design and fit a locking device to prevent the starter from operating when the engine is running? I have caught the button on several occasions by accident when the engine is running to be greeted by a terrible screech as the starter gears hit the flywheel. I am sure it is not...

Loose rear indicator
How do you tighten a loose rear indicator assembly?
It looks like the rear mudguard needs removing but I cannot find all the fixings for it.
Any advice would be welcome!
Cheers Adrian.

1150R handling v 1150GS handling?
Just been watching on Youtube a video of a 1150GS rider with a bike cam doing the mountain part of the Isle of Man TT course. Pretty impressive as he wasn't holding back and managed to overtake numerous "power rangers" on their sports bikes! A lot has been written praising the handling of ...

Holding the bike on a slope
Quite often the bike has to be held with the brakes on a slope at, say, a busy junction or at some traffic lights. On an ABS/servo bike this means the motor in the servo is constantly working. Will this damage the unit in time? How else can the bike be held without using the brakes? Holding it by sl...

If Leicester is not too much of a jaunt, try " Boxerman " in Leicester.
Do a Google search of him and have a look at his site.

Re: What do you think?
TicTak 50 I don't know if adjusting the rocker end float will cure your noise but after adjusting the valve clearances and end float on my engine the engine was very much quieter. I think the end float adjustment was more relevant in making the engine quieter but I am sure someone on here will clari...

What do you think?
Bought my R1150R (2002 registered) in May 2007. It came with a full BMW service history. It had an inspection service ( big one) just before I had it when it had 21K miles. It had an annual service in 2008 and all fluids were changed and the ABS fluid was changed and bled. It now has 26,670 miles on...

Re: Another ABS problem
The light pattern is as follows:
left light - constant, right light - flashing approx 4 times a second.
According to my handbook it just says that this means one circuit is down. It doesn't give any other clues!

Another ABS problem
Occasionally my ABS lights trigger without any obvious cause. Every time it has happened I have lost the rear wheel circuit. The servo works fine when operating the front brake lever, but fails to operate with the foot pedal and also considerable pressure needs to be used for the rear brake to work....
