May I ask an ignorant question?
Not stupid, I hope, just "uninformed", ie, ig'nant? I'm assuming (a dangerous thing) that no one's really in love with the placement of the stock R1100 oil coolers, right? Is there a reason why the 2 small coolers couldn't be replaced with 1 larger one, perhaps an aftermarket Lockhart, sit...

According to these folks, who are all-knowing, http://www.bmbikes.co.uk/bmwmodels.htm, The R1150R comes in at 480 lbs. dry, 524 wet, which is still very light in this displacement range. But, the R1200R specs out at 435 lbs dry, 490 wet, or 34 lbs wet, 45 dry lighter. The R1150RT shows as 561 dry, 6...

Thanks Biff, I really appreciate the info. So then, are the lower 5 gears the same in both transmissions, with the only difference being the larger gap between 5th - 6th, or is the lower geared tranny a closer-ratio deal requiring more shifting overall? I'm all for lowered rpm at highway speeds, unl...

"Tall" overdrive/6th gear?
Forgive me if this has been discussed a 1000 times, but I'm a newbie that snuck over to the "dark side" from the Airheads camp. Thinking of going "modern" (horrors!) But, I keep reading references implying that there's a "regular" 6-speed and then an "overdrive&quo...

Geoff, while you're restoring that '87, pop on over to http://www.r65.org and look around.
Although many of us also have other bikes, it's all about the R65 there, and there are quite a few members from your side of the pond too.
Welcome, in advance!
