Re: New Member

One good thing about any backlash on a shaft drive is that it never changes, ( no chain stretch), so you can learn it, so to speak. You might want to try a different rev range, or a higher gear in the conditions that trouble you. In any case, ride safe.

Re: New Member

Welcome to the fam. When shifting from 1st to 2nd, load the shift lever just a little. that is to say pull up on the lever just enough to take up the slack, then when you shift it is a Lot less clunkie. The gas on off is sensitive. I call it precise, and happen to like it. As a new BMW rider, I know...

I rode with an older guy on an RT a few years ago, he told me that any time he gets pulled over for speeding, the first thing he does is take his helmet off so the officer can see his full head of white hair. Oh yea, he was a lawyer. lol.

Re: Any one notified of Fuel Pump Flange Recall yet?

Received mine in CT a couple of days ago. It said they don't have the parts in stock to do the repairs now. They will notify me in the mail when they are in stock. In the mean time, it said if you smell gas when the engine is running, shut it down and they will pay for the tow to the dealer.

I rarely shift at higher than 4500 rpm. Love the torque of the boxer.

I have an '07 that does the same thing. Not bad enough for me to ask the dealer to fix it yet though. I will be interested to follow this thread for sure.

Re: Advice on taking the plunge

Brock, I came to the R1200R from a 2002 RT in 2007. I felt the same as you about all the plastic. I LOVE to look down at the cylinder heads sticking out in the breeze on the R. The main reason I switched was the weight factor. The RT is wonderful for making miles, but a bit much for me to handle in ...

Sounds like you should have the damper itself checked. I have a Cee bailey 18" and have never had a hint of wobble at any speed. Good luck.

Re: 12,000 Mile Update & Other Stuff

I had aux. lights on an RT that I owned. It was the best $300 I ever spent. I used them as drls as well. At night I could see off both sides of the road about 30 ft. I really considered this a vital safety issue. I don't have them on my R1200R only because I almost never ride at night any more. If y...

Re: Replacement front rotors

I have an '07 with 10 k on it that has this front brake run-out and a very slight shimmy. At this point, it is only a minor annoyance. I was wondering if any riders have had the rotors turned by their dealers to correct this.

If you are 6' tall or less, I would get a bar back. I'm 5'8", and this was an absolute necessity for me.
ride safe.

Re: Is the R1200R Motorcycle Nirvana?

badbs 101, your review/opinion of the R1200R is right on. I'm a 50 year rider with an '07 R1200R, and I feel as you do that it is the best bike for me that I have ever had. I don't ride as much or as far as I used to, but every time I ride the R it is fun again. The mix of performance, ergos, and lo...

Re: Wunderlich bar riser question

The first thing I did in 2007 to my R1200R was bar risers. No problem with cables. There is every so slight pull on one of them at full lock. How often do you use full lock? Big improvement for me. I can't tolerate any weight on my wrists anymore, so a more upright seating position is critical for m...

Re: How much slop in your driveline?

The nice thing is that whatever slop you do have, it never changes unlike with a chain. So, it becomes second nature to compensate so that it is a non issue.

I run 37/42 on my '07. I check it often, and have 9100 miles now. Both tires still look ok to me. I'd guess there is about 2000 miles left on both. My riding style is average to on the slow side, ( I'm old ) lol.

The R1200R seems to be a well kept secret. Funny how a brief test ride will sell so many of them.
