Brakes question
My 2002 1150R came w/ABS brakes. Now it has the "flashing lights syndrome" virus which I plan to eventually cure by going to manual brakes. The servo assisted front brakes work as always but the rear brakes are essentially useless unless extreme pressure is applied; then just barely work. ...

Re: 2003 R1150RT Will Not Start - Fuel Problem
I know you're looking for a complex solution to the problem you're experiencing but I would bet the answer is simpler than you expect. I thinkd the reason your bike won't start is due to the throttle cable on the right side is not fully seated in the adjuster. It only takes a small (1/8th) inch slac...

Almost....a defector, ugh!
Ok y'all. Bought me a 2007 Yamaha FJR1300A with 5K miles while I attempt to sort out, primarily, brake issues ie, flashing ABS lights and no rear brakes on my '02 1150R. Must admit I have become expert at removing the fuel tank. Doing that hasn't helped brake issues in the slightest, however, lol. W...

Re: Rear brake problem
Welcome, and welcome to arguably the most discussed topic on the forum:flashing abs warning lights and no rear brakes. Not sure which year BMW solved this issue with the R1150R (did they solve it?) but I know it began with the 2002 which is what I have. Have owned in excess of 20 BMW's; all their ma...

Re: Tire Size
Have a 2002 R1150R and I installed 180 Metzler Z6 on it with no problem. However, the 170 will have a more nimble feel whereas the 180 feel is a little more sluggish. My main goal was aestetics and hopeful by being a bigger tire it would last longer. Results:Didn't last longer. Everything else was a...

Re: more brake problems !
There is probably no problem more discussed than 2002 BMW ABS brake problems. The problem you list I too have had and have, at least part of it. No rear brake servo function and flashing lights. My fix to the flashing light is to cover it over but not recommended. After researching the many helpful ...

Re: 2002 1150R won't start
I'll check that but what is so confusing is for a week it wouldn't attempt to crank and when I pulled the plugs and turned the engine over there was no spark at either plug. Tried another ignition coil and still no spark. Leave for three weeks and now it will run on one cylinder. Well, maybe tomorro...

Re: 2002 1150R won't start
Flash forward update. Okay, I had to go out of town for a few weeks and upon returning I rolled my bike out to be picked up and taken to the dealership for diagnostic and/or repair. Couldn't resist trying one more attempt to crank the bike and low and behold it tried to start and then after coaxing ...

Re: 2002 1150R won't start
Replaced ignition coil today but still no spark to the plugs. Rechecked fuses (they're still not blown, lol). Would replace the H.E.S but hesitant to spend more money and risk having same problem. It has been suggested to me by my "non BMW" riding buddies that as old as my bike is, 2002, I...

Re: 2002 1150R won't start
Used low pressure garden hose (learned from experience about HP spray). Checked fuses and they're ok. Pulled front engine cover and secured a hair dryer to blow on the HES for about an hour even though there wasn't any indication of water present. Still no start. Hopefully, tomrrow I can check furth...

2002 1150R won't start
Returned from a beautiful 2K mile ride on which my bike ran flawlessly! To show my appreciation I gave it a good washing and wax job. Cranked it up and let it idle a few minutes then pulled it into my basement. .Next day pushed it out for another short ride. Won't start. Turns over great and the bat...

Re: Rear brake question
You're right about the usefulness of the rear brakes and I wouldn't let the lack of them deny the enjoyment of riding. However, due to how the brakes are designed (engineered?) to work, in the back of my mind I wonder if the front brakes may suddenly follow the path of the rear brakes. Makes enterin...

Rear brake question
My 2002 1150R w/iABS is afflicted with the hereditary "flashing lights syndrome". Front brakes function well but rear brakes have no servo help so they slow the bike if applied forcefully but will not stop it. I'm leaving this weekend for a trip of approximately 3K miles so I can't begin A...

Re: 02 R1150R stalling
Had a similar problem with my 02 R1150R. Finally after much failed troubleshooting diagnosis I accidently found what the problem was. While trying to figure out another problem (ABS lights) I had removed and replaced my fuel tank several times and one of the plastic fuel disconnect had broken but ov...

Thanks for your help sweatmark. Rear sensor on order. You said switching to non ABS on my Roadster was simpler than on the Rockster. Do you have a link for the Roadster switch to non ABS?

Re: Brake warning lights flashing
Thanks for your reply. FWIW my bike is a 2002 model. Pulled he rear sensor and cleaned it but problem remains. Have located a used one off the same model as mine and will buy it to see if that is the cure. Would prefer to switch to manual brakes if this doesn't work but dealing with the electrics in...

Brake warning lights flashing
This topic has been analyzed adnauseum........almost. And I have researched all or at least a lot of them before submitting this so here goes as briefly as possible. My brake warning lights started flashing so I changed brake fluid and made sure all levels were correct. Still flashing. Replaced batt...

Re: How about another ABS thread!
Can't seem to solve the mysteries re:ABS flashing lights on my 02 BMW R1150R. Front brakes work perfectly but rear brakes have no servo actuation....except on rare occasions. Riding the bike "as is" is ok with me and if the warning lights weren't flashing....constantly, I wouldn't notice w...

Re: R1150R ABS PROBLEM
After making double sure all fluid levels were ok I decided to ride my bike despite the brake warning lights. After 5 miles warning lights quit flashing and both front and rear brakes work as normal. After around 50 mi lights begin flashing again and as before when they were flashing I have almost n...

Re: R1150R ABS PROBLEM
I'm having exactly the same problem and it occured yesterday. All brake resevoir levels are correct and pads are ok. However, I notice I have relatively no stopping power when using the rear brake lever. Front brakes are as powerful as ever. Looking forward to hearing what the solution was for the o...
