I'll try that test and report back with findings.
At first, I thought the problem was water in the fuel, but the issue happens more often than not. I can put some fuel dryer in the tank and see if that makes a difference. Tried Seafoam in the last full tank, didn't make a difference.

Re: Hesitation/Stall at 3-4k Rpms
I have not tried to crank the engine with the coils off the plugs, would I check this to see if the spark plug caps are shorting to the inside of the cylinder head? What is your reasoning for this test? What is the proper ohm's reading for the ignition coils? My bike has a single spark plug per cyli...

Hesitation/Stall at 3-4k Rpms
About two months ago, I noticed my 03 1150R w/ 29k miles hesitates and almost stalls while riding on the highway in 6th gear at anywhere from 3-4k rpms. The rpms will start dropping and the engine loses power. If I apply more throttle, the engine springs back into life and revs normally. Today when ...

Re: Seapage around oil filler cap
I experienced many leaks with my oil cap as well. After replacing the o-rings a few times and the seal only lasting a few thousand miles, I removed the black, plastic piece that the oil cap seals into (using the finger-hook technique mentioned above), installed new o-rings, and put a light coating o...

Re: License Plate Bulb Substitute
I am located in the U.S. I'm not entirely sure if license plate lights are required here, but the way I look at it, the more lights you have on your bike, the better. $20 for a simple light bulb is crazy, but apparently not in the BMW world! As this bike requires maintenance items, I am surprised at...

Re: First BMW! Newbie to Forum
Welcome to the madness Gunny! I purchased my 03 R1150R about 2 months ago and am loving it! Doing an 800+ mile ride this weekend all around FL. This is the only bike I've ever owned where I don't hesitate to do long trips because I know she can take it. Congrats on purchasing the sexiest BMW motorcy...

Re: New Battery?
I know LiPo is the latest and greatest in battery technology, but I have a hard time believing that the eBay battery you posted from eBay will have enough reserve power to start the bike if the engine doesn't start immediately and requires a few more seconds of cranking. How did you connect the BMW ...

License Plate Bulb Substitute
Just found out the license plate bulb on my 03 R1150R burned out. Checked Google and found that the stupid bulb is at least $10 plus shipping. Others have recommended using eBay LED substitutes, but I have found they burn out as well due to poor quality. Went to Autozone and found Sylvania 1893 bulb...

My understanding is that the clutch/brake fluid will turn brown because it has absorbed moisture.

Re: Where best to mount a GPS?
Crazycam, I like your idea, simple yet effective! I bought a "waterproof" holder for my Garmin Nuvi GPS on eBay which came with a handlebar mount. I mounted it between the two handlebar clamps and adjusted it so it's not distracting yet I can see if quickly if I need to. I thought about pu...

Re: Missing in the rain??
Also, to answer your questions, no, the temperature change in the front and rear of the cylinder heads would not cause this problem.
I rode in the rain for about 45 minutes on my way back from Biketoberfest today and had no issues with the engine missing.

Re: Missing in the rain??
If the engine is only missing when riding in the rain, that narrows down the problem to being electrical. There are a few ways to check for electrical shorts in the ignition system. I would start by checking the spark plug wires, do you see any cracks or fraying in the wires? Next, I would check the...

Biketoberfest, Who's Going?
Two friends and I will be leaving the Pembroke Pines, FL area Friday afternoon to head north to Daytona. My friends will be trailering their bikes (wussies!) and I will be riding my R1150R. Wondering any of you guys/girls will be at Biketoberfest? I'd love to meet some Beemer enthusiasts! This is my...

Re: Brake warning light & fuel mileage
MPG sounds about the same as mine, fuel light will come on around and my last fill up at 177 had the tank nearly empty, filled up with 4.8 gallons.
Taking the bike to Biketoberfest this weekend, mostly highway riding, curious to see what the mileage figures will show.

Remember guys, a good way to find out if your antifreeze is still good is to mix it 50/50 with your favorite soft drink or alcohol. Gives the drink a nice twang......

Re: Using Metal Tube Inside Fuel Tank - External Fuel Filter
Thanks John!
I've been doing allot of maintenance work on my R lately, time to put some miles on her instead of tweaking things!
I may be taking her to Biketoberfest at the end of the week, the first long distance trip (3+ hours). Maybe I'll see some of you Beemer nuts there!

Re: Using Metal Tube Inside Fuel Tank - External Fuel Filter
Dr. Strangelove, just for clarification, you were able to find a brass 5/16" barbed coupler at a hardware store which is installed where the OEM in-tank fuel filter used to be? I haven't investigated how the fuel lines connect to the OEM fuel filter, how were you able to attach the barbed coupl...

Using Metal Tube Inside Fuel Tank - External Fuel Filter Mod
Why can't we use a piece of brass tubing inside the fuel tank to bypass the OEM fuel filter? This would be much cheaper than the $20.00 a foot tubing and, in my opinion, would be more substantial. The metal tube could be brazed or soldered where the OEM fuel filter was inside the tank.

Re: Quick Disconnects -GIT-R-DONE
Installed my Beemer Boneyard quick disconnects yesterday. As usual, a small project turned into a big one. Relocated the fuse and relay for the PIAA driving lights to near the rear fuse box, cleaned the corrosion from the battery ground terminal, and replaced both fuel tubes coming from the tank. Sp...
