Thanks! All great suggestions. I recently got sideswiped on the freeway on my R1100RTP (total loss) and I thought I might spare myself the temptation of a NEW bike if I juice my beloved Yellow Jacket up a bit. I'm stuck at home recovering, so I figured researching would take away some of the frustra...

Performance Mods: What is the best bang for the buck?

Hi all,

I'm thinking about adding some performance parts to my 02 R1150R to spice things up a little. Can anyone suggest parts or mods that they've added that significantly improve performance?

Performance chip impressions? Exhaust solutions? Shocks?

Thanks!

My Rick Mayer is amazing. Great value and price. If you are in the area, I recommend a drive-in. It's really cool to see him actually mold the seat from scratch. Plus, he's one of the nicest guys you'll meet.

Big Sur in Northern California is amazing. You couldn't go wrong taking the PCH. There's a lot of amazing roads and lush, beautiful scenery.

If you are looking for desert, you may want to look into Joshua Tree, in the Southern California. The state park is filled with high-desert beauty.

Speedometer Light Burned Out

Does anyone have information on how to replace the bulb behind the speedometer? Mine just went out tonight. Also, what type of bulb does it take?

Thanks!

The aux lights really come in handy when you're out in the middle of nowhere. I ride down to Joshua Tree in Southern California frequently, and when you are out tearing around in the park at night, it is pitch black - no street light, starlight, or sometimes even moonlight. It's useful to throw ligh...

I just installed Wunderlich black bars a couple of weeks ago (picked them up from BMW of Santa Cruz). So far I'm really happy with the look and fit. There are mounting points for auxillary lights, which is a big plus as well. The look of the bars mimics the lines of the bike really well and don't lo...

I agree with Dr. Strangelove's assesment. The mounting system sucks. The bolts that connect to the triple clamp shook loose almost every time I went out riding. I recently added lock tite and that seemed to remedy the problem. I just added the Laminar Lip this morning and went tooling around for a b...

I'm about the same height as you, and I've got some issues with the touring shield. When the shield is on, the airflow is directed preciccely at eye level, causing a great deal more noise and subtle, yet persistent buffeting. This buffeting actually caused a little bit of a headache the first couple...

I'm getting ready to plunk down for some PIAAs, and I had a question along these lines (I've already got the signalminder installed). I read somewhere on this board that someone had trouble with the fact that you need to hold down the cancel button for over a second (he couldn't shut the aux lights ...

Used Ohlins shocks...worth it?

Someone is advertising used Ohlins front + rear with 7k miles on them for $750. Anyone think it's worth it? Or should I keep saving for new ones...?

I took a 200 mile jaunt (round trip) this morning and I am pleased to report that the seat performed extremely well. I had been suffering from two things with the stock seat that seem to have all but disappeared now. After about 60-ish miles on the stock seat, my legs would start to cramp up (especi...

Rick Mayer Seat

I just picked up a used Rick Mayer seat on CraigsList (only $150!!), and did a quick test run... I have to say, I'm very impressed! I can already feel the additional height reducing the cramping in my legs, and the butt support is nice. Also, it looks great! I'll update this post with thoughts after...

It was the 20 Bulb light that I gave the link to in the start of the thread. I didn't know the Pirate had LED turnsignals...do you have a link? In retrospect, I think the reason the these particular lights are not as bright as the BRAKE! cluster is that the bulbs are positioned around a cylinder, wh...

OK...I installed the LEDs tonight, and have mixed feelings. I bought the "amber" colored bulbs, but the light cast is closer to yellow, which was a pleasant surprise (it matches my Yellow Jacket). :P I also like the fact that the bulbs are clear (white) when they are off, so paired with my...

Thanks for all of the comments... I think I've been talked down from the ledge on this one... I love my RR, it's easily the best-looking and best-feeling bike I've ever owned. It's got character. I love toasting squids in the twisties on an un-assuming, bag-ladden bike. AND this board is AWESOME. Th...

Late night thoughts - help!

Ok guys, I was going over my list of desired mods (I just got some GS handguards to install this weekend; I'm planning on installing crash bars, PIAA lights and a top box soon), and something occured to me. Am I trying to turn my beloved RR into a GS? I love this bike, but I have been looking lustil...
