Re: Diagnosis Please
Thanks for the replies. I'm having a hard time thinking of what information to provide. A few months back I had a disagreement with some gravel. I lowsided at probably 25 miles per hour. The clutch lever was bent (but the dealership replaced it and did the insurance repair work). It seemed okay righ...

Re: Diagnosis Please
I never start off in neutral. I keep it in gear and hold the clutch when I'm stopped. If some idiot doesn't see me, I'd rather get out of there than be rear ended. I'm assuming it's a clutch smell. I suppose it could just be hot. It seems like a new development though. BTW, Jap bikes typically have ...

Diagnosis Please
Hi All, I'm hoping to come up with a different diagnosis than the obvious one because I know how everyone feels about the problem I 'could' be having. [-o< I've been having a recurring problem downshifting from 2nd to 1st. I REALLY don't want the problem to be what I think [not saying it]. I have an...

Re: Elf pegs--yea or nay?
I have a concern about heat too.
I'm heading up the coast this weekend on a two-day trip and was looking for a solution that prevents monkey butt. The "jug rest" might be it, if I'm not too chicken to try it.

Re: New to BMW - should i buy a 2004 r1150r
+1 I had to be a little more practical because I commute on my R. I knew from the moment that I test road one at a dealership that I would eventually buy one because when I walked in after the test ride Tina told me I had a stupid grin on my face. She knew it was just a matter of time. It didn't tak...

Re: New to BMW - should i buy a 2004 r1150r
I agree that the price really depends on your location. I posted here when I was looking for an RR. I was frustrated by the difference in value between Nada and KBB. In the end I had to just keep my eyes open and pay attention to what was out there. Here in Southern California, these bikes seem to h...

I had some trouble with this too.
I found that my idle was adjusted too low. Now that the idle is correct, I don't have that problem.

Re: I want to wrench--Teach Me Obi-Wan
Thanks Brian and Zeke. Brian --I'm in North San Diego County, so that wouldn't be a bad ride for me if you're willing to help me out. I'm just taking a guess about the throttle bodies. I've read that when they're out of sync that there is a lot of vibration. I wouldn't describe what I'm experiencing...

I want to wrench--Teach Me Obi-Wan
Hi There, I realize I haven't properly introduced myself. My name is Julie and I live in Southern California. I just bought my 2004 R1150R (Non-ABS) last Sunday and I'm loving it so far. I realize that maintenance on beemers can be expensive if you don't do the maintenance yourself. So, I'm hoping t...

Newbie with a Few Questions
Hi All, I got my new to me R1150R home just yesterday and haven't had time to read the owner's manual yet. The ride home went well, but I have a few questions based on things I've experienced so far (I'm sure I'll have more as time goes on). First, let me say that I'm new to BMW. My other bike (whic...

Re: Need Purchase Advice Please
I agree that in AZ and CA the bikes tend to maintain their value.
This bike has system cases, so I'm happy about that.

Re: Need Purchase Advice Please
Woo hoo! The guy caved in.
My final price is $5700, which I'm comfortable with. The bike has new tires, new battery, and just had it's 24K mile service not long ago.
Now I have to sell my Yammy.

Re: Need Purchase Advice Please
I've looked around a bit and people with low prices on their 1200s seem pretty firm. Not that it's a suprise. I think I mostly went through the exercise to solidify in my mind that the 1150 was the best choice financially. We'll see if the guy emails me again. If not, I might drop him a line tomorro...

Re: Need Purchase Advice Please
I will if I decide to go with that bike. I will ask him to drop the price $200 more.
But I'm starting to think that if I have to spend almost $6K for a 6-year-old R1150R, then if I spent a couple thousand more (if i got a great deal on a used 1200), I could have a newer bike and a lighter bike.

Re: Need Purchase Advice Please
Crap. He just emailed me and came down to $5800. That's $100 more than I was comfortable with.
Does anyone have any opinions or advice? Thanks.

Re: Need Purchase Advice Please
AA,
It sounds like you got a decent deal. Having the extended warranty in place for a few months should certainly give you piece of mind.
Who knows what might pop up in the next week or so. I'll just keep my eyes open and keep beating the bushes. If something pans out, great. If not, I'll live.
