Re: Hiss / Pop on start - Also power socket
Thanks. I found the reason for the power socket. It was actually a connection in the battery tender adapter had come out. So now, the hiss/pop.
I guess I'll pull the tank and check the terminals.

Hiss / Pop on start - Also power socket
Ok, a twofer problem: The first is that sometimes (it's intermittent) my 2004 Rockster makes a hiss or pop when starting cold in the morning. Sometimes it will be accompanied by 4-5 seconds of cranking before the bike will start. When warm the bike starts up with no noises or issues. The second issu...

Re: Loud valve clacking
^^^ That's my bike's year, a Rockster, and approximately the mileage. I occasionally sprayed a very short blast of chainlube at the bearing's shaft entry point close to the throttle wire pulley. Besides lubricating the normally dry shaft, with foul weather riders it could also collect that roadside ...

Re: Loud valve clacking
Well, I pulled the valve cover and didn't have my fear that when I did the valve adjustment, I hadn't tightened the locking nuts properly. I can't think of anything else that would be horrible noise-wise.
Edit: terminology clarity.

Loud valve clacking - SOLVED
I recently did a valve adjustment and TB synch on my 04 Rockster. Power is better and smoother, etc., etc., but what I notice is that the clicking sound of the valves seem to be much louder, especially when slowing down to almost a stop. I hear a clacking sound which I can't remember having been the...

Re: Brake Drag
I cleaned the pistons and pads last night; pumping the lever to get the pistons out a little further to clean them better. I cannot, at all, push the pistons back into the calipers. A careful review of Clymers says that I should be opening up the main reservoir and suctioning off some fluid? Are the...

Any idea what's causing part of the pad to get chipped off? http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6189/6051457334_4984cbab49.jpg BMW R1150R Clutch Side Front Brake Pad by MoraleHazard , on Flickr http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6083/6050899689_559713b31d.jpg IMG_3590IMG_3595BMW R1150R Brake Side Front Brake...

Re: Brake Drag
Many thanks for the replies. No the pads weren't changed; just the tires. The brakes are Tokico's. I'm going to try the re-alignment again, and stab the brake as I push down. Some other questions; to clean the pistons, etc. do I need to drain the bike of fluid? Can riding the bike in this condition ...

Brake Drag
Hi everyone. I'm experiencing the "front wheel won't spin" issue that I guess has come up before from a few other posters. About a month ago I had the tires changed by an independent mechanic. (I don't know if this has anything to do with the following symptoms). I noticed that my front wh...

Re: Staying warm in winter without staying home.
I live in Connecticut USA and have ridden in the 30's F / low single digits C. I use UnderArmor Cold Gear as a base layer with a fleece over that under my leathers on my upper body. Lower body is generally just polypro long underwear and leather pants. Merino wool socks. Over the leather jacket I'll...

Re: Rockster Problems
Is it possible that you have one of your throttle cables not seated properly? Perhaps while changing the starter or draining the tank, one of them got pulled out of the adjuster a little bit. Check that. This was it; thank you very much. And it was just the rubber sheath not stuck properly into the...

Re: Riding shoes. Boots. Whatever
I wear m/c boots to work and change in my office. If I had a plant or engineering job where boots were acceptable footwear, I'd do something w/ Redwings or Wolverwines or what-have-you

Rockster Problems
Hello everyone, sorry for not posting for so long and now this long doozy of a post. I have an 2004 Rockster w/ about 12000 miles on it. It's completely stock except for a Garmin and a small windscreen. I'm in the reserves and last year I was recalled to active duty. Before I left, I put stabil in t...

Finding ground on a Rockster
I'm trying to install a TomTom Rider and cannot seem to get a good ground on the Rocker. Anyone have any idea?
Thank you.

So sorry to hear about the mishap. Luck and prayers for a speedy recovery.
Thanks for posting the bit about the boots. It will help me to force myself to wear my Oxtar Infinity's. I went down on them in 2006 and while my ankle was sprained nothing, thankfully, got broken.
Good luck.

3 Questions: What's the best way to clamp the hose shut to keep the fuel coming out if I were to remove the quick disconnects or do I have to drain the tank? How do I remove the crimp clamps that BMW put on the bike? Anyone know what size steel and hose clamps tubing I have to use? Thanks all for yo...

Odyssey PC680. And yes, buy the post adaptors. I had to call the number at http://www.westcoastbatteries.com in order to get the adaptors, but at $20 incl. shipping it was well worth it.
