Re: a question about ohlin shocks

I waffled on getting new shocks for years because of the ridiculous price. But after I bought my GS I decided to bite the bullet and see what everyone was talking about. It really does make a world of difference having decent shocks on the bike. And unlike a car, where usually the "performance&...

Re: BMW Comfort Saddle or Corbin Follow-up

I've had two Corbin seats, both on an RT (different RTs). The first one had to be returned immediately due to a tear in the cover. That was a 4 month adventure of them losing it, etc. The second seat I bought because I figured surely they've gotten better over the years but nooooooooooooooooooooo. T...

Re: Thinking of another R - barback question

I need to get an administrator to change this thread for me and make it into a poll. How many people think Don should get a life? Heh, it just occurred to me that Don probably can't tell who I am just from my clever sig. This is Michael Bird, occasional contributor to the Roundel and E39 diges...

Re: Thinking of another R - barback question

michael, if you give us a few details on the r12r in question we can tell you if it's too good to be true or just a good deal. price, mileage, condition? wes 2008 R ABS OBC Htd grips standard seat teeny-tiny windshield luggage rack center stand 300 miles. Yes. Three zero zero. 299 would be too low,...

Re: Thinking of another R - barback question

Thanks guys! Sounds like everyone is happy with the moto-techniques, and you surely can't beat the price! I think the VM barbacks I bought for the GT were $230. It's 7:00 AM here on the east coast, so I'm going to wait a few hours before I call this guy on the R for sale. It's one of those deals tha...

Thinking of another R - barback question

I test rode a R1200R last year and loved it, but after 15 minutes my hands went numb (I suffer from carpal tunnel). This was a problem for me on my RT but I put on barbacks which also changed the angle of the grips and that solved it for me. But on the "R" it is a solid bar. I rode a GS fo...

Re: Thinking of buying another - Q on selling prices for farkles

Thanks guys for the feedback. $3-400'ish is what I thought they may go for. The w/s is a smaller market, so I don't have great hopes for that selling quickly. As for the rails, I'm not sure if these bikes came with rails or not (I guess not). My last R had rails but no bags, but the seller may have ...

Re: Fearfully contemplating doing my own valve adjustment

I use the four feeler gauge method. It took forever the first time, but man oh man was it worth it ('04 RT). I had sold my first RT ('96) and R (also a '96) because no dealer mechanic could be bothered to do the valves and TBS to my satisfaction. I thought the dual spark engine was the answer, but t...

Thinking of buying another - Q on selling prices for farkles

I'm toying with the idea of another "R" since my GT blocks a lot of wind and I live in the humidity capitol of the world (or so it seems when you've got ATGATT). Found one with BMW side bags and a smallish fairing and windshield by Parabellum. I don't need the bags as I'll take the GT for ...

Re: ergonomics and my aching hand

I've not had this problem (other than numbness due to carpal tunnel) on my past "R" bikes but I have noticed that my GT causes my left hand to hurt quite a bit after some time with lots of clutch actuation. Changing the angle of the grip (as some have noted) would probably have the best ef...

Re: my kingdom for a backrest

I had an RCU passenger backrest on my RT years ago. Well made, worked fine. A little difficult to remove the seat, more so when I bought a Corbin (the leather covered brick). I've always wondered about these guys: http://www.ceebaileys.com/bakup/bmwbakup.html but they don't seem to offer a model to ...
