Re: 2005 RTP
Also, the windshield should be 2 inches taller (if original) and the heated grip switch works a little different. I think middle is off?

Re: Valuation help !
I think it means '04 across the pond. Doesn't the plate numeration designates the year of mfg over there? I have a friend who refers to his '06 Mini as a 56 plate, and has a hard time understanding that most Americans have no idea what he's talking about. I don't think he's going to be my friend muc...

... it also made it necessary to lean the bike over farther to the right in order for the side stand to make the arc as it retracted. Interesting. I mount and dismount with the side stand down, wheel turned to the right, and holding the front brake. If I can get off, I know I can get back on. Due t...

I've had the Wunderlich on my '04 R since 2005. I don't find it too small. If I lost it, (which I did because I failed to put a dab of red Loctite on the screws) I would buy another in a heartbeat (which I did). I find that closing one eye when looking at the prices of Wunderlich items helps a little.

"Is the Odyssey battery the nirvana that a lot of people have come to believe? " I'm not sure what people believe, but my experience was less than "Nirvana" The original BMW gel battery in my 2004 R1150R could go three winter months (NY City winter months mind you) without a char...

Welcome to the "insanely expensive" glove club. Lee Parks and company really hit the nail on the head with their gloves. I also have the DeerTours (with the outseam)...On my third season with them.

Re: Any alternative to that @#$% airbox?
Attaching Uni filters directly to the TB is not good for the power curve... It is best to leave the airbox in place, and look for extra power or storage space with some other bright idea. Good advice. I did this with my old (carbureted) Guzzi SPII. It looked awesome, and made the intake sound like ...

Re: Winter Riding Gloves
I found that just adding the GS handguards, even with the upper extension, will let your hands stay warmer for only about 5 minutes longer than if you didn't have the guards. The only reason why I've kept them on for 6 years is that they help a little on the 2 days per year I get caught in the rain....

No chance. Just ask any deer.Xdot wrote:I don't suppose the Deer Tours are waterproof?
DeerTours are comfy, durable, warm (above freezing), and offer great dexterity. Waterproof is a whole 'nother topic. I use ski gloves when I absolutely must ride in cold, wet weather.

Any tips or tricks for us? Cost? How 'bout doing those stripes on your tank?
Bet it'll make your valve covers look baddass.

Mein gott!
Anyone taking a course in designing should bring these pictures to class to show how important "lines" and "flow" are. Neither one are candidates for the Most Beautiful Bike contest, but hey...you can't see the engine while your riding ('cept when your texting).

I don't usually ride when it's below 45 degrees, or when the roads are salted. These have worked well for me.

The windshield brackets (I bought my screen in 2004) mount to the headlight braces. Without severe modification, the plastic side covers will not go back on.
I got over it quickly when I experienced the reduction in buffeting, which made me decide to keep the bike.

Yeah, it has happened to a few of us with R's and RT's.
No matter what you hear, it has nothing to do with rider error in attaching the bag to the bike in most cases. Must be a twisting frame thing.
I use a ROK strap from one handle to the other. Someone will chime in shortly about a better fix.

To reiterate what has been stated above, you will need the Laminar Lip to complete the ugliness trilogy. Only after this final addition, will your investment towards creating a wannabe R1150RT (which we probably should have bought in the first place) be complete. FYI. Make sure you try different hei...

Re: The RTP trans that isn't an RTP trans
You may want to note the ratios of 1st and 6th gear now that you have a spare trans sitting on your work bench. Just count how many turns of the input shaft it takes to turn the output shaft once. You can do the same with next trans, when or if you get one. Just as a side note...my brother has an R1...
