I also wouldn't recommend one as a first bike. Also, since you mentioned it, at 20 years old and making good money, I'd get a pilot's license, more fun, more practical, faster getting somewhere and will drain your wallet if that's what you are trying to do, a lot faster.

I have the LED lights on mine and I think they look stupid. I much rather have bought the strobe stop light bulb. Much brighter, flashes are much easier to notice, cleaner installation, no wiring modifications. Around the same price. YMMV

Not sure, but the blue tarp will do plenty of damage to the finish on the paint if it's windy. I think I'd deal with the wet bike, easier to dry off then buff paint. Good luck with your plan though.

I don't like that much either. If I would have bought a new one, I would have removed the pipes and had them ceramic coated on the inside. That would sure help keep them nice. But, not much point in that after a few hundred miles.
