For me, ownership was more a result of knowing what a good value the R1100R is. Unfortunately, I think it is one of the most misunderstood and/or under-appreciated BMW's made. But because of that, I got a great deal on a great bike!! I appreciate its naked good looks and the resulting ease of mainte...

Well, the cam chain tensioner and other parts ordered from Chicago showed up last Thursday. After procrastinating for 6 days I rechecked this thread and went out to the garage. I'm happy to report that, 30 minutes later, the job is done. The procedure for the R1100R is very similar to what is shown ...

I just stumbled onto this post and ohhhh does it bring back bitter memories. Back in '03 I bought a brand new '02 R1200C and immediately began to add safety-enhancement upgrades, one of which was a headlight modulator. One Saturday a month or so after I installed the modulator I was pulled over beca...

I ordered a single H4 relay kit from him and installed it a few weeks ago. It arrived a week after I ordered it. It is made well and of high quality components. My stock 55/60 seems much brighter now.

I would not hesitate to order from Jim again.

So why are we ripped off? And don't say it's because we deserve it! That's a hell of a mark-up being applied here. Surely freight isn't that expensive! Thievery! Shame Mr BMW, shame. I feel your pain, MIXR. Here in Houston, one of our local BMW dealers (the one closest to where I live, actually) ro...

Prices from Chicago BMW (from their website) in US$ are as follows:

Piston BC-1131 7656 922 - $31.20
Tensioner BC-1131 7688 629 - $20.80
Sealing Ring BM-0711 9963 308 - $0.17
Total-$52.17

Not a bad deal. Mine's getting pretty annoying. I think I'll order a set.

I installed my SM-5 last year and it has been largely trouble-free. However, once in a while it takes 2 or 3 hits on the cancel button to get it to actually cancel. But it's intermittent and a minor annoyance. If it gets worse I'll contact Kisan. Other than that, it's one of the best accessories tha...

I've not heard of it before. DJ Neither have I. Are you the original owner? Do you know if the bike has ever been hit or dropped? It looks like a good whack on the rear subframe could possibly break that boss off. Also, I think the R1100RT and R1100GS models used the same transmission case in case ...

The R1100R is also less susceptable to clutch spline failure, possibly due to the fact that the transmission input shaft is completely engaged in the clutch plate. The R1150 series is engaged for all but 4mm, which is suspect in causing this most expensive of failures. Anton Largiader did a great wr...

I was a bit concerned about muffling the sound by putting it under the tank, ha,.. no need to worry about that. My ears were ringing and in pain after the test (no joke). I did a demo for someone else and they were shocked by the noise. ha. I was wondering about this thinking that the underside of ...

Great shots TX2Step. Did you modify the horn in order to fit it on the existing horn mount or did you make up a bracket? I have one of these horns (unfitted) which I was about to fit under the seat/tank in the unused ABS space as it seemed a v tight fit behind the forks. My concern is that where I ...

How do you like the windscreen? Givi, right? Yes, it's a GIVI A755. I like it more than I thought I would. It was on the bike when I bought it but the seller also included the BMW touring screen. I had intended to take it off and replace it with the BMW screen immediately, but after I rode the bike...

The Fingerlakes is a great place to visit. Top end is Lake Ontario http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k207/daryl_stamp/DSC01518.jpg Did you take that at Fair Haven State Park? Sure looks like it. Suweeeettt!! You'll love it. The poor R1100R has to be one of the most under-appreciated bikes ever. But that's why there are great deals to be had. I picked up my black '99 ABS SE w/ 29k this past Spring from the original owner and I LOVE it. You'll love yours too! http://i95.photobucket.com/albums...

As for ABS I would not want to ride without it. I'm relatively new to motorcycling, too, and find that those "panic" moments, when all the MSF and ERC training just evaporates from your brain, require all the help you can get. Enter ABS brakes. Don't leave home without them. Feeling as I ...

Congratulations!!! You made a wise choice picking an R1150R over a 650 V-Strom. Not that it's a bad bike, but for the money, you got A LOT more! That's one sweet-looking bike. As far as the pipes turning red, that doesn't sound right to me. I would have it checked out. I own two oilheads and I sit i...

You can soak the o-ring in brake fluid overnight to make it swell up and seal better. That lasts for a few months. I did that for a while then installed a Moto Techniques oil filler plug assembly. Unlike most others, it replaces the entire plug and valve cover insert, and requires the removal of the...

I installed one of these beasts on my R1100R tonight. After I was finished I took her out for a spin around the 'hood sans helmet and honked the new horn. Almost broke my eardrums. No, you don't have to take the tank off (this is an R1100R we're talking about). Take the rider's seat off and the battery terminals will be accessible.
