Where did you hear this? I've not seen anything from BMW on this topic. --Phil >>>At least BMW have extended the srevice inteval for fluid change to 4 years in the centre circuits which keeps down the cost.<<< From a UK BMW dealer, and my last service reflected the difference in cost.

Johnny As far as I understand, the bikes are quite different in geometry. I haven't checked personally, but I believe the Rockster is much like the R1100S in characteristics. The R is a bit more conservative. As for surging on single spark, that wasn't such a problem this side of the Atlantic - bett...

Chris/Rog Altberg are the best! I have a pair of Clubmans (I think) that must be twelve years old or more. Used to clean and wax them regularly, but gave that up a year or so back and they still don't leak!!! The soles are still good, the fastners all good, the only sign of wear is the gear change p...

Chris I commute 90 miles a day all year on southern (softie) roads so know a bit about cleaning. I spray the main hard to get at bits with Castrol Bike Cleaner (I've tried 'em all and this is the best IMHO) and leave for a while. I then power wash with the cheapest/weakest power washer to clean off ...

12mpg...ouch! Chris, don't forget their gallons are less than ours! FWIW I get around 150-160 before the light, run to about 180 before filling. At this point I have never gotten more than 18litres in, so I figure I gould get to 200, so long as there was a garage there. Mine works out at 45mpg(UK) ...

My rear rack is marked too. I was going to get a can of spray that the auto trade use to freshen up skuffed wheels/trims and do the whole piece.

Dana Ouch - sounds expensive. What is it with these gearboxes? I've had 4 oildheads now, an 850R, 1100RS, 1150RT and now this 02 R. The first three had real clunky boxes. You know the sort - the ones that frighten animals and children. This one is super slick. Doesn't matter what revs/speed, or how ...

This post begs the question, "how difficult is it to convert ABS to non ABS?". I'm specifically thinking of an 1150 with power brakes. I have often thought that when the bike gets to an age when it would be beyond economical sense to repair the ABS, could I just convert? Obviously you coul...

At the risk of being flamed, we must get our terms correct. I don't think anyone would argue the benefits of ABS under certian coditions. Likewise, in good conditions it is unlikely to get activated. What is deifinetly arguable is the benefit of the very complicated/expensive power assistance that B...

This isn't anything to do with the ABS, but is the power supply to the brakes. It's happened to me twice now - once on my RT, and once on this bike. On my RT which was inside warranty got looked at by a genuine BMW techy. He explained how it worked, and what can cause the apparent failure. One such ...

I hate the tax disk holder wherever it is mounted, so I stick mine on the screen with a one-time-use holder, which takes me about 10 minutes to get off come renewal, so I figure it's gonna keep the scumbags away too.

I have had both. The Bonneville is a great bike, but is form over function. If I thought I could have used it enough, I would have kept it, but I just couldn't convince myself. I do a 100 mile round trip every day in British weather, and there's no way the Bonneville would have tollerated that. Then...

Thanks Keith. For the time being I pulled the multi-socket from withing the unit, and taped that up.

I thought there was some transformer upstream from the Autocom itself, as I thought this ran on 9v.

I'll lift the tank or get the dealer to do it at the next service.

Autocom removal

I'm just looking at removing the autocom from my R. It is mounted just in front of the seat, with the feed wire disappearing off under the tank. I thought initially it just went to the battery, but as far as I can see (without removing the tank) it goes off toward the front of the bike. Anyone got a...

Thanks for that. Exactly what I was looking for. I might take a look at the BMW F650 top case (which is a bit smaller, and see if its bottom is flat  That way I could even have the same key for opening the box :D

Thanks again.
