I too believe in following the manufactures recommendations for breaking in
Have just done so on my 2 month old 1200GS (1150R gathering dust for now)
Oil level hasn’t moved since first service 2,000 klms

My 03 uses almost 1 litre per 1,000 kms
Tried filling to middle of sight glass(recomended by another 1150 owner) and made no difference
Oil level went below bottom of sight glass a couple of times (not recomended)
Now fill to top of sight glass as per BMW manual
Very happy with the bike
