Respray problems now resolved. Tank , side panels and mudguard all have a shiny new coat of gloss black. Looks great.(photos to follow).
Problem is , it wont start and I 'm wondering if there is air in the fuel system (bearing in mind the fuel tank was emptied before spraying. Anyone got any suggestions?
Think I connected the electrical connectors OK (its impossible to get the 2 mixed up, right?. One's a 3 pin, the other is a 4 pin).
Then there is the quick release fuel lines - one near the rear of the tank , the other further forward. Again, this was easy to reconnect. That just leave the overflow lines which have no effect on starting.
Bit puzzled. Some techy help needed.
Since the fuel system on the hexhead is a "dead-end" design, where there are single fluid lines running from the pressure regulator down to the injectors - it's indeed possible you have air in the system. If you have a GS-911 handy, they have settings in the actuation part of the software that will actuate the injectors, and fuel pump - allowing them to purge out air. You can probably accomplish the same thing by just cranking for a longish time (do mind the starter motor - you don't want to burn it up.. 2 or 3 minute bursts at the longest..) Earlier fuel systems used a loop-circuit where fluid under pressure circulated through a fuel-rail and the excess back to the tank... ie - self-purging.

Even 2 or 3 minutes on the starter sound like too long to me. Can you bleed the lines by taking the lines loose at the injectors and turning it over? It used to work on an old diesel Ford tractor we owned.

What is happening to my skin?
Where is that protection that I needed?
Air can hurt you too

Isn't it hard to balance the bike once it's up side down ?

Take a look at how the hoses attach to the injectors. They aren't really designed to be disconnected and then reconnected.

Thanks Don. Don't think my battery will last 2 minute cranking after the many shorter attempts last night. However, I have the BMW Assistance cover so will call an engineer out. I assume it is an air block. Presume it makes no difference which way they fuel hoses from the tank are re-connected, one for each pot.

Oh, very funny. You have me there,.......but remember , every dog has his day

In which case, I have new evidence for you. Once the temporary starting problem was fixed the bike was taken for its first ride and the new aggressive coloured helped rider to complete his favourite circuit in a personal best time. Think this proves, your honour, that black is indeed the fastest colour. Same rider , same bike, different colour, faster time............. The case for the defence rests. .......

Prosecution rebuttal:
In taking this argument under advisement, we need more data points. This may simply be a statistical flyer that will be discarded in the final analysis. We also need to add the variables of weather: temperature, local barometer, humidity, etc. to properly compute density altitude which can skew the results by causing abnormal engine performance. There also needs to be consideration that your adrenaline level may have effected your normalized performance, thus becoming another statistical flyer.

LOL.... Must admit, I did feel like some kind of flyer last night. Propose we adjourn the hearing so I can go and get some more data points
