I ran the thermistor's wire toward the back about as far as it would go and tie-wrapped the thermistor to a downward part of the frame, on the inside of the tube. I figured it would get plenty of air back there, well away from engine heat.
Also, FWIW, I found the best way to install the gadget was to remove the tank fixing screw on the left side of the bike, lift the tank up off the air box and put a block of wood between the air box and the tank to free my hands to work with the now-exposed intake air temp sensor plugs.
It was a very simple operation and took about 10 minutes total, most of which was trying to find my flashlight so I could find the sensor.

I forgot (didn't think of!) the wooden block and did it one handed! Hey were you concerned about the almost 90 deg bend needed for the plug wires? It doesn't seem like there's much space between the top of the plug and the bottom of the tank.

I purchased the "booster plug" two weeks ago. I did not like the jerky throttle respose as well as what power steps when accellerating, with the factory set up.
Assessment: I has most assuredly smoothed out the throttle response. The accelleration is smooth from off idle to 6 grand and above. I do seem to have lost a little fuel mileage. Not sure on that due to the trip I used to test the devise. I traveled from N. Louisiana to Hill Country, TX (West of San Antonio) and had a good deal of head winds. I had been getting around 50MPG and it came down to 41 to 45 MPG.
Am I satisfied with my purchase, YES! One feature I like, is there was no modification to the bike's wiring. Everything can go back stock in less than 20 minutes.
Would I recommend it, YES! I find it made the R12R more rideable, more enjoyable at all speeds.

To reply to daveyator - I AM concerned about the sharp turn in the wiring. But I figured, since the gas tank is mounted firmly at the back end, there should be very little movement and, since the wires are tie-wrapped down, there should be no tension on them. I imagine they'll outlast me, but them I'm a "senior citizen!"
Overall, I remain satisfied with my purchase: it does the job I hoped it would do which is to smooth out my bike's performance in heavy city traffic. I'd say I'm whelmed with it, but not overwhelmed.

Mine is just fine. I like the "whelmed" comment. I'm between whelmed and overwhelmed. Due to bad planning and a forgotten wallet I went 252 mi on a single tank so I'm starting to think the impact on mileage is minimal. I didn't know this thing had a low fuel light!

[If it would fix the intermittent absolutely embarrassing crappy idle it would be worth it. I'm blaming that on lean mixture combined with our booze laden gasoline, since the idle was WONDERFUL the entire time I was in Canada and got un-boozed gas..]

Mine's in, and I think I'll join the whelmed group. I do think (only think) it's a little smoother in first gear parking lot stuff and it does seem to pull better (wheel comes up easier in second gear). I didn't post because I didn't want to have to endure all the requests for dyno charts and requests for the copies of the certification from the FAA that my machine is now capable of breaking the sound barrier. Intellectually, with some small knowledge of electronics and mechanics I understand what the device is designed to do and as I mentioned before I usually jet even my stock bikes one size up in the main jet just because I feel it's better for the machine, this does about the same thing. Seeing as it's the same price as a night out with SWMBO I feel as my money was well spent, as with the booster plug I received exactly what I expected from it.
As far as your idle (Don) the device isn't in the circuit when your idling so it won't help you.
BTW: didn't notice any change in gas mileage still around 49/50 which I've been getting for a while.

I'm whelmed with mine too. My sensor resides in the air intake scoop .
Don , I read about an oil head owner with similar symptoms who poured in a half a can ( I think) of Sea Foam gas cleaner and was VERY happy with the results.
Not scientific but I'm just saying.......

I just dumped 1/4 bottle (5oz) of Techron in the tank (half-full) since I'm nearing my 42k oil change, and idle has improved - but it always improves while the Techron is in. I'm hoping if I've carboned up any valves the Techron might do some good. Also ran it a few miles at 6,000 RPM on the highway this AM on the way to work. It has the symptoms of carbon on the intakes (idles really crappy after shutting down the engine hot, then starting it up again within about 1/2 hour.. the carbon absorbs some fuel and them gives it off when you do the startup..)
Oh - at Advance Auto - the 20oz Techron Concentrate is $6.99. The 12oz is $7.99. Guess which I bought..
