The throwout bearing in our clutch slave cylinders is rather small
and has a tendency to destruct.
Just wondering if BMW took the opportunity with the 1200 redesign
to install a more robust and durable bearing.
Altho the cylinder itself is different, it appears the mounting just might
be similar. The rods have different part numbers but they might be
just a different length because of the difference in cylinder configuration.
So, would appreciate any consensus on how well your slave cylinders,
in particular the bearings in them, are holding up. If BMW has improved
that situation, it might be worthwhile to see if there's any possibility of
upgrading to a 1200 slave & rod, or at least the bearing itself.
Thanks much!

Re: How does the clutch slave cylinder hold up?
They don't seem to be the problem that the oilhead ones are/were.. I don't think anyone here has reported a failure, and I'm moderator of the hexhead forum on the BMW-MOA forums, and I can't recall one there either. There was a problem with the clutch hydraulics going away on a few bikes, but re-routing of the line between the frame and the cylinder seems to resolve this. BMW did make a change to the cylinder within the past year, supposedly to address that problem, then they issued an SIB on relocating the line if someone experienced this (I've only heard of one R12R with the problem - HI CY! - it was mostly a GS problem.)

'10 R12R, 3800 mi, clutch slave cylinder gasket(?) failed and lost the fluid. Fixed on warranty of course . The tech said maybe installed wrong. But I'm thinking this isn't the issue you all are discussing.
